How to Celebrate Dog Mom Day 2023

By Sarah Hinds Friedl on May 11th, 2023

You may be gearing up for Mother’s Day this Sunday, but did you know that Dog Mom’s Day is the day before? This special holiday falls on May 13th this year, so you’ve still got a couple of days to think of something sweet for the dog mom in your life.

Here are a few ideas to get you started!

Dog paw print greeting cards
This quick and easy gift is sure to put a smile on Mom’s face. The supplies you’ll need are a blank card and some non-toxic paints. Finger paints or child-friendly paints are just fine, as long as you make sure Pupper doesn’t eat it.

Then, you’ll lightly apply a layer of paint to your dog’s paw using a brush and press it on the paper. This is best done by distracting your doggo with a very tasty treat. Even with washable paints, it’s probably best to do this somewhere with hard floors for easy clean-up.

From there, all you have to do is write a sweet message inside!

Framed photo of Dog Mom and her furbaby
Sure, the dog mom in your life probably has a million selfies and photos on her phone. But she’ll love seeing one on her wall or on the shelf in her office. You can opt for something quirky and cute, like a frame painted with dog biscuits or tennis balls. Or choose a digital picture frame that displays a range of her favorite pics.

A dog spa treatment
If the dog mom in your life takes her furry friend to the groomers, you might give her the gift of a free next session! Find out where she gets her dog washed and contact them directly to find out about gift cards.

Want something even more special for Mom? Go the extra mile by booking her own treatment too. Preferably at a human spa, not a doggy one!

Matching dog and mom pajamas
This gift is simply adorable. And it will give the dog mom in your life the perfect excuse to spend her Saturday curled up on the couch with her best friend.

If you can’t find exactly matching pajamas, opt for similar fabrics like flannel, which will be widely available in human and dog clothing stores!

A “letter” from Fido
This is your chance to let the dog mom in your life know that all of her efforts don’t go unnoticed! Write a sweet letter from the perspective of her dog thanking her for everything from belly scratches to vet visits to outdoor adventures and more.

A donation to the local animal shelter in her name
For the dog mom in your life who is an animal activist, this is a touching gift that she’ll always remember. If you know that she adopted her special furbaby from a local shelter or adoption organization, you can make a donation to that particular group. Or, you can opt for another shelter in your area that you know needs some extra help.

Offer to take Pup out on a walk to give her some quiet time
Sometimes, all that a dog mom really needs to feel appreciated is some alone time! After all, it’s a lot of work to feed, train, walk, and cuddle a doggo, day in and day out. So, if you can give her a few hours of time to relax and unwind on her own, she’ll definitely thank you for it!

BreezeGuard Screens
We created BreezeGuard Screens because we know what it’s like to be the dog mom worrying about driving safely while keeping a pup from leaning out of the back window. Our solution is a safety screen that can be easily installed on car windows so that dogs can enjoy the breeze without giving Dog Mom a scare.

A dog-friendly plant
Traditional Mother’s Day is all about the flower bouquets. But why not give the dog mom in your life something that will last? Here are a few non-toxic plants that make great gifts for dog owners:

  • Spider plants
  • Ponytail palms
  • Boston ferns
  • Herbs, like rosemary, thyme, and basil
  • Polka dot plants

If you want to make this gift extra dog-friendly, opt for a hanging pot. This will make sure that plants are kept safely out of reach for any curious canines. Because while these varieties are non-toxic, it’s still recommended not to let dogs eat plants in general.

A thermos or water bottle
Dog moms are often on-the-go, which means that she may appreciate an upgraded thermos or water bottle.

You can opt for something sentimental, like a coffee mug with her dog’s mug printed on it. Or, you can go with something high tech, like the kinds of water bottles that track hydration. Think of what the dog mom in your life will find most useful!

A video compilation of her doggo’s best moments
This is a gift that is sure to set off the water works, but your dog mom is going to absolutely adore it. Chances are, she has enough videos of her beloved doggo to make a full-length movie. But simply stringing together a few clips and setting them to one of her favorite songs will make the perfect gift.
